TSR's Weekly College Football Picks

Whatsup sausages?

After an 8-2 week, I'm back again this week. Not a very good weekend, especially compared to last weekends games but here they are. (Note: Due to an inability to look at them objectively, I will refrain from picking BC games. I now realize their offense is historically bad and they may not score more than 21 points in a game the rest of the year)

Illinois at Penn State
The Illini gave Ohio State a scare last weekend and Penn State has been rather underwhelming to this point. This game will be close, but it's in Happy Valley. Pick: Penn State

#11 Arkansas at Texas A&M
The Razorbacks have only one blemish, a home loss to Bama where they just fell apart in the fourth quarter. The Aggies are 3-1, but have lost to the only decent team they played, OK State. Last Thursday, the Aggies came storming back only to lose on a last second FG. Its also worth noting that Texas A&M is coached by Boston Latin School dropout Mike Sherman. Pick: Arkansas. A&M will be decent this year, but Arkanas is really good.

#17 Michigan State at #18 Michigan
First, TSR would like to wish Spartan coach Mark Dantonio a speedy recovery from both a heart attack and a blood clot all within 3 weeks. By now, everyone knows Shoelaces and the Wolverines can put up points. But can they stop anyone? They let up 37 points to UMASS and almost lost to them at home. MSU is coming off a big win over Wisconsin, but they may have trouble in the Big House. Pick: Close game, I'll take the Spartans. This will be Michigans toughest test yet, and their defense worries me too much.

Clemson at North Carolina
Let's hear it for Butch Davis and the Tar Heels! Not only did they beat ECU for their 2nd straight W, but they had nobody suspended this week for the first time all year! Clemson comes in off 2 straight close losses to Auburn and Miami. Pick: Clemson. Clemson still has a shot to win the Atlantic and contend for an ACC title. They win this game and its back to business as usual for Butch Davis and the Heels.

Oregon State at #9 Arizona
Oregon State comes in at 2-2 with losses to Boise and TCU. Arizona sits at 4-0 but won their last two games by 8 points combined over Iowa and Cal. Pick: I'll take the upset and go with Oregon State over Arizona in Tucson. I think both teams can play, but Arizona has been underwhelming lately. If not for some special teams TDs they would not have beaten Iowa. Oregon State wins making the Pac-10 race even more fun to watch.

#8 Auburn at Kentucky
I'll start by saying that I'm fully aboard the Cam Newton for Heisman bandwagon. Hop on while you still can! I have Auburn as a title contender and would not be surprised if the pulled the upset over Bama in the Iron Bowl. But thats still over a month away. They get the 3-2 Kentucky Wildcats on the road this week. Pick: Auburn. The Cam Newton train keeps on rolling after making a stop in Lexington.

#12 LSU at #14 Florida
I don't know. I think they're both overrated and behind Bama, Auburn, Arkansas, and SC in the SEC. That being said, LSU is somehow 5-0 despite not having a QB. Florida got rocked by Bama last week. Neither team has looked like a normal LSU or Florida team yet. Pick: LSU. Les Miles will continue his quest to be the only undefeated coach fired halfway through the season.

#23 Florida State at #13 The U
Both these teams are better than they get credit for. FSU has beaten everyone by 20+ points since being undressed by the Sooners in week 2. The U suffered a week 2 loss to Ohio State but has looked solid since then, and they pulled out a hard fought road win at Clemson last weekend despite Jacory Harris' efforts to lose the game. Pick: In a probable preview of the ACC Championship Game, I'm taking the U.

USC at #16 Stanford
Ouch. This matchup looked a lot better at halftime of the night games last weekend. Then both fell apart with USC losing to Washington at home and Stanford squandering a 21-3 lead to Oregon. USC has been unimpressive all year, and Stanford seems to have had just one really really bad half. Pick: Stanford in a rout.

Game of the Week:
#1 Alabama at #19 South Carolina
We know what Bama can do. They've been incredible for about a year and a half now, but the last two weeks have been icing on the cake. Coming back on the road at Arkansas and then beating down the Gators last week. SC has had a promising season despite a loss to Auburn two weeks ago. They've had they bye week to preapare and should come out firing at home Saturday afternoon. Pick: In what could be an SEC Championship Game preview, I gotta go with Bama until they give me a reason not to.

There you go, TSR's picks for this weekend. As always, feel free to comment.
