BCS Doomsday Scenarios

How's it going sausages?

Ah the BCS, everyone's favorite playoff system will be in the headlines for at least the next three months. Yesterday ESPN's Brad Edwards projected that Ohio State, the #1 ranked team in the nation, would be 5th in the BCS standings if they came out today. This probably won't hold up but it might be good for the system in the long run if it does. My dream ending to this college football season results in fans from at least 3 big time schools get really angry at the BCS, enough for them to threaten to strike against the system. Sorry Boise and Utah, you didn't have enough clout to get the job done. How would this armageddon play out?

Something like this (cue harp music and me going into a dream),,,

OSU goes undefeated. Boise beats every team by 50. TCU beats every team by 50. Oklahoma and Nebraska go undefeated and play in the Big 12 championship, Oklahoma wins. Oregon runs the table in the PAC 10. Alabama rolls through the rest of the SEC and beats South Carolina in the neutral site SEC championship game. FSU wins the ACC. I don't care who wins the Big East. This could happen.

OSU, Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma, FSU, Big East and Boise would be automatic qualifiers. The three at large bids would go to TCU, Nebraska and Stanford. Stanford because the Rose Bowl would have the first two selections of replacement teams because the PAC 10 and Big 10 automatic qualifiers would be in the national championship game. After Stanford the rose bowl would probably pick Boise. Then the Sugar Bowl would pick Nebraska because of their huge fan base and finally Fiesta would pick TCU because they are undefeated and their school's proximity to the game. Also TCU fans travel really well, I learned this at the college world series. That sets up the following bowls,,,

BCS Title - OSU vs Oregon
Sugar - Alabama vs Nebraska
Orange - FSU vs Big East
Rose - Stanford vs Boise
Fiesta - Oklahoma vs TCU

Say this happens and Alabama rolls Nebraska, Boise beats Stanford easily, and Oklahoma destroys TCU. That means there would be 4 teams with legitimate claims to a national title,

1) Whoever wins the "National title game." Preferably OSU squeaks by Oregon because the PAC 10 is stronger than the Big 10 this year.
2) Oklahoma would be undefeated and would have beaten two BCS teams (TCU and Nebraska)
3) Alabama would have one loss (on the road to a ranked SEC team) and probably will have played the toughest schedule in the country and they would have won the toughest conference avenging their only loss.
4) Boise would be undefeated beating three ranked teams.

I hope this would make people mad enough to demand federal legislation blowing up the BCS. I don't see how they wouldn't make more money with a playoff system anyways.

Here is more comical evidence that the BCS sucks.
