EPL Picks

Sausages,

It's that time again. Time for the weekend EPL Preview. I've come onto a little bit of a hot streak of late after coming out of the gates at an abysmal 1-9. We are looking at a full-weekend slate with one fixture coming on Monday. We are almost a quarter of the way through the season and things are really beginning to shake up in terms of the early contenders for the title. Chelsea are still in the lead by 5 points but Arsenal, Manchester City and United are hot on their trail. With all that being said, lets jump into this weekend's matchups.

Last Week: 6-4 Season: 14-16

Saturday:

Arsenal v. West Ham
Arsenal have been flying high as of late with their 3-0 whoppin' of Man City last weekend and a confidence-boosting win during a Carling Cup match (4-0) versus Newcastle during the mid-week. Hopefully Arsenal get an even bigger win vs. the Hammers and with players such as Walcott and Bendtner coming back from injury, they probably will. By the way, West Ham are 20th...out of 20.
Pick: Arsenal

Blackburn v. Chelsea
Blackburn are teetering outside of the relegation zone and their situation will become much more dire after Chelsea take it to 'em at Ewood Park.
Pick: Chelsea

Everton v. Stoke City
I am definitely looking forward to this match. Everton are in great form as of late and have surged out of the bottom of the table to 11th while Stoke sit in 13th. I hope their are goals galore in this match. Everton has great support at home and I see them taking all 3 points in this match.
Pick: Everton

Fulham v. Wigan Athletic
Fulham are also in good form at the moment and definitely tougher to play at Craven Cottage. I see Fulham getting the result here.
Pick: Fulham

Wolves v. Man City
As much as Wolves play a sluggish breed of football, especially at home, I can't see them taking all 3 points here. But Man City should be a bit deflated from their defeat at home to Arsenal last weekend, altough they were handicapped with 10 men for pretty much the entire match. The game will not come easy to City and Wolves will definitely make it tough for them.
Pick: Draw

Manchester Utd v. Tottenham (MOTW)
Wow. I can't believe I'm picking the two teams I despise the most as the MOTW. But when they sit 4th and 5th on the table respectively, its hard to find a better match. Man U has struggled of late and they have seen their star strike Wayne Rooney receive death threats just late week. I can see this match finishing 2-2 with a late equalizer from Man U.
Pick: Draw

Sunday:
Aston Villa v. Birmingham City
Ah yes, The Second-City Derby. I always try to match this match whenever I can because tempers always seem to flair. When derbies come to mind, this one is often overlooked. Both starts have been marginal by either side's standards so they will both be going all-in in this affair. I hope we see a cracking match.
Pick: Aston Villa

Newcastle v. Sunderland
Two derbies on Sunday! This is the Northeast Derby with Newcastle and Sunderland both on the far corner of England. I just don't see either squad coming away with the points in this match though, regardless of it being a derby or not.
Pick: Draw

Bolton v. Liverpool
Yes, Liverpool finally won last week but that still doesn't mean they don't blow. Bolton have only got 2 wins on the season but they are at home and Liverpool 2010-11 are still Liverpool 2010-11.
Pick: Bolton

Monday:

Blackpool v. West Brom
Monday matches are always a drag. West Brom have been in great form this season. We all know about their upset of Arsenal but they currently sit in 6th! Not too shabby for a team recently promoted. Blackpool have been no slouches themselves since getting called up to the EPL but a better-form West Brom will make their lives difficult.
Pick: Draw

College Football Picks

Big weekend this week. A lot of unbeatens going on the road. It's a good bet that at least one of them will fall. On an unrelated note, last night's game does not make NC State a good team. TSR is still going with FSU to win the ACC Atlantic and the conference as a whole. Finally, we offer our condolences to the ND community, especially the family of Declan Sullivan. RIP.

Last week: 7-3. Season: 27-13

Northwestern at Indiana
Northwestern is a very underrated team. They gave MSU a scare and I don't think they'll have a problem against a tricky Indiana team. Pick: Northwestern

#17 Oklahoma State at Kansas State
Neither team has faced too difficult of a schedule. Both teams were killed by Nebraska. Neither team is as good as their record would indicate. With all that being said, this is still an important game for both sides. Kansas State's Big 12 hopes took a huge hit last week with a loss to Baylor. The Pokes are still in contention for the Big 12 South after losing to Nebraska last week. Their season will likely come down to the Bedlam Game against the Sooners. Pick: Kansas State needs this game more than OSU, but I don't think that will matter. Gimmee the Pokes.

Tennessee at #20 South Carolina
Tennessee is winless in conference after being Bama's punching bag last weekend. To make matters worse, Coach Dooley compared his teams to Naz's this past week. As one TSR writer said, it is never a good idea to compare sports to Nazis. SC is coming off a rebound victory over Vandy and their season will likely come down to their matchup with Florida. Pick: Playing a hunch here, but I think Tennessee wins this one. I don't know why, its just a gut feeling. Side note: TSR would like to give a shoutout to Regan's cousin Evan, who graciously hosted two of the writers for this matchup last Halloween. He also gave us this piece of advice: It's not worth htting on SC girls because you know their gonna end up marrying a guy who pumps gas for a living. Well put. The same can be said about Dayton.

Florida vs. Georgia
First, as far as we're concerned, this game will always be known as The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party no matter what the NCAA insists we call it. With that out of the way, this has to be the worst matchup for these two teams in quite some time. Florida has lost three straight and needs to win this one and beat SC in a few weeks to have a shot at the SEC. UGA has won 3 in a row after losing 4 in a row. They too need this game if they want to challenge SC in the SEC East. Pick: We'll go with the Gators.

#5 Michigan State at #18 Iowa
MSU just keeps finding ways to win. No matter how close, the Spartans continue to come out on top. Iowa has disappointed me this year. As I've mentioned before, I picked them to play for the title before the season started, but that's no longer a possibility with their second loss coming last week to Wisconsin. Pick: Nothing against the Spartans, but I'm gonna roll with Iowa for one more week. This is it for them though. If they lose, we're through.

#1 Auburn at Ole Miss
CAM NEWTON 4 HEISMAN. CAM NEWTON 4 HEISMAN.CAM NEWTON 4 HEISMAN.CAM NEWTON 4 HEISMAN.CAM NEWTON 4 HEISMAN.CAM NEWTON 4 HEISMAN.CAM NEWTON 4 HEISMAN. Pick: Auburn

Kentucky at #21 Mississippi State
Gotta love both these teams. Traditionally bottom feeders, they're much improved and although both are pretty much out of the SEC race, they are capable of beating anyone. Pick: I'll take MS ST. In just two years under Dan Mullen, this team has made amazing progress. If the trend continues, they could become legitimate contenders in the SEC. Also, the fact that they are ranked 21 in the country and not in contention for the SEC is worth noting. To everyone who says the SEC is down this year, can you explain this? The traditional powers of UF, UT, and UGA are down and all the power seems to be in the West division, but it's still as hard as ever. (That's what she said)

Michigan at Penn State
No matter how these teams are doing, I love watching this game every year. With that being said, Penn State is down and really struggling this year. Michigan has lost its two biggest tests so far against Iowa and MSU. If their defense could just catch up to their offense, Michigan would be a title contender. Pick: Penn State. Happy Valley at night. I don't care how bad they've looked this year.

#2 Oregon at USC
With no bowl game this year or next year, this could be the biggest game the Trojans play until 2012. USC has lost two games by a combined 3 points. Bowls or no bowls, they're still USC so we know they have the talent. Oregon's offense is flat-out amazing. They haven't been held under 40 yet, and they've hit 60 three times including 72 against New Mexico. They have wins of 72-0, 69-0, and 60-13. I don't care who your playing, that's impressive. Pick: Ducks.

Game of the Week
#6 Mizzou at #14 Nebraska
Mizzou derailed my pick by beating the top ranked Sooners last weekend. No time to celebrate though as they head to the Sea of Red in Lincoln. Nerbaska handed Oklahoma State their first loss of the season last week and made it convincing. Pick: I'm not going against my boy T-Magic in this one. Huskers win and I don't think it will be close. I'm still going with Nebraska vs Oklahoma for the Big 12 title game.

The Lineup!

Well Sausages, it all comes down to this. The ultimate movie baseball lineup. This is the piece de resistance. All the hours of searching my movie collection and tinkering and retinkering have combined into the ultimate 1-9. The best hitters and athletes are on display here. Let's jump right into it.

1. Willie Mays Hayes (Major League) CF - "plays like Mays; runs like Hayes". Willie is the quintessential leadoff hitter. Known for his flashy plays and even flashier lifestyle, Hayes was the Indians catalyst.

Willie Mays Hays Slides Short

2. Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez (The Sandlot) SS - by far the best athlete on the team; Benny can play anywhere and everywhere. Only known person to pickle the Beast. Also famous for busting the guts out of a baseball and stealing home for the Dodgers with a sweet moustache (also safe on the play).

3. Roy Hobbs (The Natural) LF - simply a natural. One man said, "you pray he only hits a double". The game came naturally for Roy. I mean, the man played with a gunshot wound in his stomach and is the only known person to strike out the Whammer (aka Babe Ruth). Swung a mythical piece of lumber called Wonderboy.

The Final Homerun

4. Pedro Cerrano (Major League) DH - the VooDoo man. A fan's favorite and the classy guy on the team. Stole our hearts with his "hats for bats" comment, refusal to share JoBu's rum and being allergic to curveballs. The big man with the big bat who has is known for his ability to deliver a clutch homerun.

Marbles

5. Bobby Rayburn (The Fan) RF - Bobby had it all. The lifestyle, the talent and the love of the fans. That is until DeNiro went psycho and killed John Kruk on the field. But hey, we known Bobby can perform in the clutch shown when he hit an inside-the-parker while his son's life was on the line in a monsoon.

6. Jack Parkman (Major League) 1B - noted badboy, Jack Parkman loves doing his shimmy which has been known to make the women in Cleveland puke. Big-time power hitter with a questionable personality but hey, the guy can rake. Hate/Hate relationship with Jake Taylor.

7. Roger Dorn (Major League) 3B - "Get in from of the damn ball, Dorn! Don't give me this ole, BS". A noted primadonna with a high contract and a playboy lifestyle, Dorn was the highest paid Indian. Frequent clashes with Rick Vaughn ensued but the two later became close. But the guy still won't take a groundball off the chest.

Roger Dorn Oles

8. Jake Taylor (Major League) C - the veteran leader who is the obviously choice behind the dish. Taylor calls a great game and provides veteran leadership to the younger players on the team. Even though his knees are shot, there is no other man I want behind the plate than Taylor...or calling for the bunt which lead the Indians to the ALCS.

9. Michael "Squints" Palledorous 2B (The Sandlot) - a true hero to us all. We never really got to see him display his talents like the others but any man who gets with Wendy Peffercorn belongs in the starting lineup. We know he is crafty as evidenced by the pool scene so a player who is always thinking two steps ahead and isn't afraid to take a risk without regard for public scrutiny is alright by me.

Squints Big Moment

There it is. Don't ask me how long it took. Time to watch the World Series. Be sure to comment on how you believe was omitted from the roster.

Have a good night Sausages,

Go Giants!

Please God, Just Let This Happen

I happened to stumble upon this article yesterday. Although its a few months old, it still brings great news: http://thepipelineshow.blogspot.com/2010/05/ncaa-hockey-video-game-on-way.html

That's right, a college hockey video game! I realize most people probably don't care, but trust me. This is a huge deal to people in New England and the Great Lakes region. It looks as if EA is going to add NCAA teams to future versions of their NHL series, hopefully NHL '12. They will join teams from the Canadian and Russian leagues already featured in the game and you can play out a whole season with them. It looks like EA is trying to make their NHL series resemble their FIFA games, which make sense with both sports being so global.

Dear Commissioner Stern,,,

Minor league baseball, popular, profitable, reliable, good for baseball because talent can develop without having to risk the success of the major league team... why wouldn't it work for the NBA?

Every week I hear a sports pundit talking on the radio or on TV about the controversial issue of "one and dones" in college basketball or how players have the right to jump ship out of high school and go to the NBA.

Currently the NBDL is not a legitimate minor league system, no one wants to pay attention to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants or the Sioux Falls Skyforce (I didn't make those up). You have a better idea? Why yes, yes I do.

1. Put the NBDL franchises in legitimate metropolitan areas where they can make money. No need to build costly new arenas. Cities with colleges are preferable, dollar beer nights anyone?
2. Each NBDL team will have two NBA teams affiliated with it. Put the NBDL team within reasonable geographic proximity to their NBA teams.
3. Each NBA team can place 6 players on their NBDL team.
4. Expand the draft to 6 rounds. Only players taken in the first round have guaranteed NBA contracts. NBDL players will not get paid much but if they make the jump to the NBA they have to make the NBA minimum.
5. Brand these teams effectively, use good nicknames/colors and make the uniforms throwback style so people will be interested in buying merchandise.
6. Don't make tickets crazy expensive. You should be able to go to an NBDL game for $10-$15 for a mid level seat.
7. Players can jump straight from high school to the NBA after being evaluated by NBA sponsored scouts. If the scouts don't believe that the player will be NBA ready in 3 years than he can't enter the draft.
8. If a player does decide to go to college he has to stay there for at least 3 years.

So I present to you the NBDL, complete with nicknames, arenas and NBA affiliates. I think it could work.

Movie Baseball Stars pt. 3

Sausages,

Hope this Tuesday doesn't blow. I know that it has been a few days since the last post but we are almost to the pinnacle of baseball stars. Today I'm unvieling the starting rotation. Same rules still apply and if you have any beef, take it up on the comment thread.

Rotation:
Mel Clark (Angels in the Outfield)
Chet Steadman (Rookie of the Year)
Eddie Harris (Major League)
Kenny DeNunez (The Sandlot)
Whit Bass (Angels in the Outfield)

If that rotation doesn't strike fear in opponents hearts then I don't know what will. There is a mix of sheer power and craft among these pitchers also coupled with a air of professionalism. The top three starters are nearing the end of their careers (one nearing death) but they were chosen for their ability to win games, their love of salisbury steaks (looking at you Steadman) and rubbing Vagisil on the ball. Expect a Walter Johnson-esque amount of complete games with this bunch. Let the debate begin...again.

Quick!

Off the top of your head name the team that leads the NFL in total offense, passing yards per game, total defense and pass defense???????

They are 2-5, and we thought the BCS was screwed up!

Musketeer Madness

Hello Xavier basketball fans!

Disclaimer: If you are not a Xavier basketball fan than you should become one, its legit.

This weekend was newsworthy for the musketeers as they hosted their annual musketeer madness event. Think 'midnight madness' but with more free skyline for dinner and less 'actually taking place at midnight.' The event was comprised of an autograph session followed by fancy player introductions, a womens scrimmage and a mens scrimmage. Muskie madness isn't televised so I know you out of towners will appreciate a write up. Here are my thoughts,,

Who looked impressive- Jay Canty, Justin Martin, Tu Holloway, Jeff Robinson.Canty and Martin both looked good for freshman. Canty had a couple rebounds and made a three, he probably won't be anything special his frosh year but he looks capable of taking some minutes rebounding and playing D. Martin is huge for a shooting guard, legit 6'7 and strong. Finished a fast break with a dunk in traffic and looks like he can shoot it from 3 at a decent clip. We know Holloway has the stones to lead the team I expect him to take his PG play to the next level this year, 3:1 or better assist to turnover ratio. Jeff Robinson looked like the most improved player on the court. He had a few rebounds, a blocked shot and a nice post move and finish in traffic. He should see decent minutes this year

Who looked average:  Mark Lyons, Jordan Latham, Griffin Mckenzie Dante Jackson, Jamel McClean, Andrew Taylor, Travis Taylor, Walk Ons. I didn't really watch Lyons and Jackson very closely and they didn't make any standout plays. Jackson just needs to take his defense to another level this year just like Stan the man Burrell did his senior year. Lyons will probably be asked to score more, which I think he can do. Latham and Mckenzie both looked 'as advertised,' Latham is big and looks like he can rebound, Mckenzie is bigger than I thought and made a 3 however I think he will need some seasoning before getting significant minutes. McClean had one nice finish in the post. He will have another solid year starting at the 4. I didn't notice anything special from Andrew Taylor, Travis Taylor or the white boy walk on squad, none of them will see much action (although TSR does love Feeney and Hughes).

Who needed some work: Kenny Frease, Brad Redford (hurt). Kenny still looks confused and unsure of what to do with the ball when he gets it in the post which resulted in a couple of turnovers. He is leaner and faster but he still seems to not catch up with the speed of the game. However, the power forwards, McClean, Latham and Robinson looked good so I'm not really concerned about front court depth. Redford hurt himself the day of the scrimmage and is out for the year. As long as Martin is declared eligible than it shouldn't be an issue. It is fun to watch Brad shoot but he is a defensive liability and can't rebound.

The new scoreboard, ribbon boards and video board add more to the area than I expected. They produce a ton of light and the graphics are sharp. The Tas (the Cintas Center) looks more like a small NBA arena than an on campus arena. I'm sure the upgrades are another plus for any recruit looking at XU. Xaiver received two verbal commitments this weekend from two four star top 30 recruits D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Michael Chandler. I'll have some more info about them later in the week as well as a "Rest of the A10" preview.

Movie Baseball Lineup pt.2

Alright Sausages,

This is the second installment of the Movie Baseball All-Time Lineup. The same rules still apply. Right now we are going to take a look at the bench players many of whom may or may not have played a game of baseball in their lives. Let the debate begin.

Bench:
Ray Mitchell (Angels in the Outfield) 3B
Danny Hemmerling (Angels in the Outfield) Utility
Billy "Downtown" Anderson (Major League: Back to the Minors) OF
Stan Okie (Rookie of the Year) 1B
Kelly Leak (Bad News Bears) 3B/OF
Rube Baker (Major League 2&3) C
Taka Tanaka (Major League 2&3) OF
Lou Collins (Little Big League) 1B

Next on deck is the starting rotation coming up shortly.

EPL Picks

Sorry for the late update and I know one game is going on but I had my pick before the match started.

Last Week: 7-3 (great form!)
Season: 8-12

Saturday:

Tottenham v. Everton
Pick: Draw

Birmingham v. Blackpool
Pick: Birmingham

Chelsea v. Wolves
Pick: Chelsea

Sunderland v. Aston Villa
Pick: Sunderland

WBA v. Fulham

West Ham v. Newcastle
Pick: Newcastle

Sunday:

Stoke City v. Man Utd
Pick: Draw

Liverpool v. Blackburn
Pick: Blackburn

Manchester City v. Arsenal (Match of the Week)
Arsenal have a tough match away to City. City are in form and will look to get all three points but Arsenal will make their lives difficult after a mid-week CL confidence boost and the return of Captain Cesc Fabregas.
Pick: Draw

TSR's College Football Picks

Sausages,

Its that time of week. Let's take a break from the MLB postseason and watch a little football. A few undefeateds will get their first test this weekend and we have two huge games that will make the title picture a lot clearer. Also, the rankings I'm using are the BCS ones since, you know, they actually matter.

Last Week: 6-4 Season: 20-10

#7 Michigan State at Northwestern
The Spartans survived a horrible first half at home against a pesky Illinois team last week. Trailing 6-3 at the half, MSU rattled off 23 straight in the second half and put the Illini away. Northwestern comes in at a surprising 5-1. Granted, their schedule hasn't been the toughest, and they lost to Purdue 2 weeks ago, but they're coming off a bye week and their at home. Pick: The Spartans stay unbeaten and handle their business. Expect them to play more like they did against Michigan than they did against Illinois.

#16 Nebraska at #14 Oklahoma State
T. Boone Pickens must be loving life right now. His Pokes come into this one undefeated after picking up a road W in Lubbock. Per usual, the Pokes can put points up with the best of them (except maybe Oregon). RB Kendall Hunter has 10 rushing TDs and QB Brandon Weeden already has 19 TDs. Big Red comes into this one after losing to Texas. Instead of avenging the robbery that took place in the Big 12 Championship last year, T-Magic was held in check and only accounted for 84 total yards. Pick: I had Nebraska as one of the best teams in the nation heading into the year, just behind Oklahoma in the Big 12. Expect a bounce back from Martinez since the Pokes dont and never have played any D. Bo Pelini will have the Blackshirts (Nebraska's D for those who don't know) ready to go and I think they win relatively easy.

#13 Wisconsin at #15 Iowa
The Badgers come in after a huge win over the previously top ranked Buckeyes. Unofortunately I was hammered by that point and only saw parts of the game. In fact, the only time I watched the Badgers, they barely beat Arizona State at home. Iowa is halfway through a 4 week gauntlet featuring Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and MSU. Add in Arizona and Ohio State and Iowa has one of the more difficult schedules. Pick: Since losing to Arizona Iowa has looked good. I orginally picked them to make the title game, but that's probably not happening anymore. I'll take the Hawkeyes in this game. Nothing against Wisconsin, I just don't know much about them besides Clay. Plus, Bret Bielema has a Hawkeye tatooed on his leg: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Uncovering-Bret-Bielema-s-not-so-hidden-Hawkeye-?urn=ncaaf-278898

Georgia Tech at Clemson, North Carolina at #25 Miami
Georgia Tech has lost to Kansas and NC State. Clemson has competitive losses Auburn, Miami, and North Carolina. Most of you know I'm an ACC fan but let's face it: they are beyond awful this year and just thinking about these games makes me depressed. BC could have easily won the conference with their defense this year but their offense is straight up embarassing (although not as embarassing as UNC's compliance). Picks: Clemson and the U. Now lets move back to real football...on second thought...

Hawaii at Utah State
Let's get this WAC game out of the way while we're at it. Hawaii just beat a pretty decent Nevada team. Utah State's claim to fame is that they almost beat Oklahoma week 1. Pick: Hawaii.

#8 Alabama at Tennessee
Finally, we're back in business. Alabama is coming off against Ole Miss after losing to the ole ball coach the week before. While they didn't woodshed Ole Miss like I thought they would, they still won by 13. Tennessee is 2-4 but they've played an absolutely brutal schedule. Oregon and LSU are title contenders; and although they're down this year, Florida and Georgia are still Florida and Georgia. The road isn't getting any easier for the Vols either as they visit South Carolina next weekend. Pick: Bama.

#1 Oklahoma at #11 Mizzou
One of two huge games on the day that will shape the title picture. The Sooners have taken their share of criticism for not beating Utah State, Cincy, and Air Force convincingly. However, they've blasted FSU and Iowa State. Mizzou comes in undefeated after thrashing Texas A&M last weekend. The Tigers have had their share of close calls too, most notably aginast San Diego St. We will know a lot more about Mizzou after next weekend because they get the Sooners and Cornhuskers back to back. Pick: I picked Oklahoma at the beginning of the year to win it all. I'm not gonna stop now.

Washington at #18 Arizona
I can't figure Washington out. They have wins over USC, Oregon St, and a surprisingly decent Syracuse team, but they've lost to ASU, BYU, and got rolled by Nebraska at home. Arizona followed up a loss to Oregon St with a win over Washington St. Arizona has played a few close games, but their win over Iowa still impresses me. They will be without the Pac 10's leading passer in Nick Foles. Pick: Tough one. Arizona's at home, but I'm leaning towards Washington since Foles is out. They didn't miss him much last week after he went down, but that was WSU. I'll take Washington and hopefully this time I can actually pick them correctly.

Game of the Week: #6 LSU at #4 Auburn
Battle of the Tigers. LSU is still undefeated despite many close calls. They have miracle wins against Tennessee and Florida, but they are wins none the less. Les Miles may be crazy (or crazy like a fox?) but he usually finds ways to win. Auburn is looking like arguably the best team in the country. TSR is completely on board the Cam Newton for Heisman bandwagon after watching him lead Auburn to 65 points last week. Pick: Take Auburn. I know you should never count LSU out, but their luck has to run out soon. Personally, I think Auburn is probably the best team in the country right now, right there with Oregon. This doesn't mean I'm abandoning the Sooners, its just what I think. Auburn wins.

The one that got away,,

Many of the guys who read this blog are or were baseball players. Baseball players inherently love baseball caps, sometimes players are more concerned with the look and fit of their hat than they are about their gloves or spikes. I have seen baseball players use baseball caps as currency to gamble on the outcome of drinking games. A good hat is that valuable.

Nothing is better than a well fitting cap that has been worn over and over.  I found this article describing the relationship between a sports writer and his favorite hat which he affectionately called "Golden Boy." Golden boy was with him for ten years until he lost it. Once someone finds their "Golden Boy" they hang onto it for as long as possible. See Trevor Bauer of UCLA, or Trott Nixon, former Red Sox great.

Anyways the point of this post is to have people share their "golden boy." Mine was my sophomore year high school baseball hat. It was a mesh fitted navy blue hat. The logo was a BM criss crossed like the old Milwaukee brewers logo. I lost the hat the summer after my freshman year in college while travelling in Ireland. The hat was more purple than blue due to fading by the time I lost it.

Post your golden boy in the comments.

"They see me rollin', they hatin'"

Sausages,

I hope you're enjoying yourThursday thus far. I saw this on PTI and had to post it on the blog. It's of Marshawn Lynch acting a fool after an OT win at Cal. It's safe to say Marshawn "Beast Mode" Lynch went "in" on this ride. Buckle up, kids.

Baseball Movie Stars pt.1

Whats up Sausages,

Work day-dreams are a wonderful thing, aren't they? I had the great idea and opportunity to generate the all-time baseball movie lineup. This lineup/pitching staff/managerial staff has a few simple rules:

1). No real people - sorry Shoeless Joe (Field of Dreams) or Babe Ruth.
2). All personalities. From the loveable losers to the obnoxious jerks. All have a spot on this team.
3). Bull Durham is too much of a chick flick. Sorry Crash Davis and Nuke LaLoosh. Maybe next time when you get your man card back.

I'm gonna keep you Sausages waiting for the entire roster. But first we will unviel the relievers and the coaching staff.

Relievers:
Henry Rowengartner (Rookie of the Year)
Dan Prince (Angels in the Outfield)
Billy Chapel (For Love of the Game)
Steve Nebraska (The Scout)
Rick Vaughn (Major League)

Coaching Staff:
Manager: George Knox (Angels in the Outfield)
First Base Coach: Morris Buttermaker (Bad News Bears)
Third Base Coach: Lou Brown (Major League)
Pitching Coach: Phil Brickma (Rookie of the Year)
Hitting Coach: Billy Heywood (Little Big League)
Team Manager: Jarius 'G-Baby' Evans (Hardball) - RIP

Have we all been there? Maybe not,,,

Colts punter Pat McAfee had a wild night last night, waking up next to a canal wet and shirtless and he can't remember how he got there.

When an officer asked McAfee where his shirt was, he replied "It is in the water," police reported, according to WISH-TV. Asked by police how much he had to drink, McAfee said "A lot cause I am drunk," according to the report.

"I know I am drunk, but does that mean I cannot walk home?" McAfee asked police, according to the report.

Hahahaha, his logic makes sense to me

Doc Ellis was one crazy dude

Mornin Sausages,

Check out this animated video describing Doc Ellis's LSD no hitter, good stuff. I'll post the "he blows player of the week" later today. It's going to be a throwback to the NFL of the 90's.

"I looked in the paper and there it was, today's pitcher, you, sucka!"

Jersey Watch #1

Sausages,

I hope you're enjoying your Sunday. While I was looking for Jarome Iginla jersey, I stumbled across a site completely devoted to Oregon Duck uniform combinations. The site has the uniform combinations for 2009 and 2010 and it includes the artist renderings, what the jerseys looked like on the field in official game day photos and the result from those games. It's a pretty cool site in my opinion. My personal favorites are the ones they wore for the Civil War 2009 vs. Oregon State and the ones they worse during their loss to Ohio St in the Rose Bowl.

It's worth a look simply to marvel at the amount of money Phil Knight and Nike devotes to that program and U of O as a whole.

Rebels + Admiral Ackbar = Ewok?

Saucy Gees,

In case any of you haven't been following recent news in the SEC then here's the scoop. Ole Miss changed their mascot from Colonel Reb who has been roaming the sidelines since 1979 to the newly crowned Rebel Black Bear. So let me get this straight: Ole Miss, a school steeped in the lore and tradition of the South changed it's beloved but albeit controversial mascot into a bear? Not just any bear my friends, a black bear. Apparently black bears are indigenous to the Oxford region. Could have fooled me.

You might have recently seen ESPN commercials showing Ole Miss students rallying for Admiral Ackbar of the Star Wars series being petitioned for the position. But due to George Lucas' ego the size of the Death Star, that plan was nixed. And Colonel Reb, hell even Admiral Ackbar were replaced by an Ewok-looking creature.

Looking at this situation as a fan of collegiate athletics, I don't really see the point of getting rid of the mascot that has been synonymous to Ole Miss for years. Yes, getting rid of the Confederate flag was the right move because of its direct ties to the old South. But when I see Colonel Reb, I don't think of a plantation owner, I think of a man dressed in Southern attire that was typical in the Civil War era. But I'm not on the board at Ole Miss or any other school so my opinion doesn't really matter but they could have done better than a bear in a sport coat and tie. I didn't know bears were so academic but I guess you learn something new everyday.

Sausages: Introducing the Ole Miss Black Rebel Bear Ewoks aka "Da Bears"

Premier League Picks

Sau-sa-ges (Joe Namath voice),

Due to a glitch in the system, I have received Internet access at work. This is truly a special occasion and I will take advantage of this opportunity to make my picks for the upcoming Premier League weekend. There were no picks last weekend due to International Break. Last time I made picks, I made a meal of it more than a Brooks Conrad groundball (too soon). Anyone who lost money (I doubt it) by making their bets based on my predictions can tuck themselves in; This is the same person that guaranteed Michigan would win at work last weekend. The matches this weekend aren't as good as they were a few weekends back, but we still should have some interesting matchups this weekend.

Record: 1-9

Saturday:

Arsenal v. Birmingham City
Arsenal will finally win a match. After back-to-back weekends defeats, a shock loss at home to WBA and away to Chelsea, Arsenal will finally get some players coming back and get a W at the Emirates.
Pick: Arsenal

Bolton v. Stoke City
Two very physical sides but I see the visitors Stoke City getting the points here.
Pick: Stoke City

Fulham v. Tottenham
I have this match circled because USAs Clint Dempsey plays for Fulham and I despise Tottenham. Fulham at Craven Cottage are hard to beat.
Pick: Fulham

Man Utd v. WBA
Man Utd will struggle and with Rooney being off-form and a resilient WBA.
Pick: Draw

Newcastle v. Wigan
A match at St. James' Park is always an occasion but there will be no winner here.
Pick: Draw

Wolves v. West Ham
Wolves are the dirtiest team on the planet. They call it physical but something needs to be done when opponent's legs are being broken each week.
Pick: Draw

Aston Villa v. Chelsea
Chelsea got back to their winning ways a few weekends back at home v. Arsenal and I expect that to continue with their trip to Villa Park.
Pick: Chelsea

Sunday:

Everton v. Liverpool (Match of the Week)
This is only Match of the Week because it's the Merseyside Derby. Also called "The Friendly Derby" because families are divided between Everton and Liverpool supporters. With the match being at Goodison Park and Everton getting a win last EPL weekend, I think they will take all three points this week.
Pick: Everton

Blackpool v. Manchester City
If there is one thing Blackpool can do, its give up goals. They have given up a league-high 15 goals this season. While I expect them to lose, they won't give up six this time around, again.
Pick: Manchester City

Late Addition: Monday:
Blackburn v. Sunderland
Pick: Meh. I forgot all about this one. So it'll be a draw.

Well, that's that. Happy Fall Break to those at X. Have a Kenny Powers-esque weekend.

Sports...Occassionally Awkward

Sausages!

If you love sports and awkwardness, then this video is the one for you. Every one of the Top 10 are quotable but if I had to choose a favorite, it would be Joe Kines talking at 100 mph, Shaq "not giving a sh*t" or Joe Namath "strugg-a-ling". There is nothing like watching athletes/commentators make complete fools of themselves for the entire world to see.

Chris Evert and Suzy Kolber approve of this post.

Till then,

BCS Doomsday Scenarios

How's it going sausages?

Ah the BCS, everyone's favorite playoff system will be in the headlines for at least the next three months. Yesterday ESPN's Brad Edwards projected that Ohio State, the #1 ranked team in the nation, would be 5th in the BCS standings if they came out today. This probably won't hold up but it might be good for the system in the long run if it does. My dream ending to this college football season results in fans from at least 3 big time schools get really angry at the BCS, enough for them to threaten to strike against the system. Sorry Boise and Utah, you didn't have enough clout to get the job done. How would this armageddon play out?

Something like this (cue harp music and me going into a dream),,,

OSU goes undefeated. Boise beats every team by 50. TCU beats every team by 50. Oklahoma and Nebraska go undefeated and play in the Big 12 championship, Oklahoma wins. Oregon runs the table in the PAC 10. Alabama rolls through the rest of the SEC and beats South Carolina in the neutral site SEC championship game. FSU wins the ACC. I don't care who wins the Big East. This could happen.

OSU, Oregon, Alabama, Oklahoma, FSU, Big East and Boise would be automatic qualifiers. The three at large bids would go to TCU, Nebraska and Stanford. Stanford because the Rose Bowl would have the first two selections of replacement teams because the PAC 10 and Big 10 automatic qualifiers would be in the national championship game. After Stanford the rose bowl would probably pick Boise. Then the Sugar Bowl would pick Nebraska because of their huge fan base and finally Fiesta would pick TCU because they are undefeated and their school's proximity to the game. Also TCU fans travel really well, I learned this at the college world series. That sets up the following bowls,,,

BCS Title - OSU vs Oregon
Sugar - Alabama vs Nebraska
Orange - FSU vs Big East
Rose - Stanford vs Boise
Fiesta - Oklahoma vs TCU

Say this happens and Alabama rolls Nebraska, Boise beats Stanford easily, and Oklahoma destroys TCU. That means there would be 4 teams with legitimate claims to a national title,

1) Whoever wins the "National title game." Preferably OSU squeaks by Oregon because the PAC 10 is stronger than the Big 10 this year.
2) Oklahoma would be undefeated and would have beaten two BCS teams (TCU and Nebraska)
3) Alabama would have one loss (on the road to a ranked SEC team) and probably will have played the toughest schedule in the country and they would have won the toughest conference avenging their only loss.
4) Boise would be undefeated beating three ranked teams.

I hope this would make people mad enough to demand federal legislation blowing up the BCS. I don't see how they wouldn't make more money with a playoff system anyways.

Here is more comical evidence that the BCS sucks.

Quick Roundup

Sausages,

Let's cut to the chase here. Excellent sports viewing on TV tonight coupled with some pretty intriguing story lines. Let's breakdown the top two events that are on my plate this evening.

1). Brett Favre's wristwatches vs. The Dirty Sanchez's. I personally circled this on my calendar as soon as I found out Randy Moss was returning to 'Sota and Jenn Sterger worked for the Jets. Don't know which got my attention quicker. Revis is scheduled to start for the Jets which means he'll whine when Moss bombs his island...again. Odds: 5/1 - hamstring 3/1 - ego. But all kidding aside, I'm taking the Jets in a close and hopefully memorable edition of MNF. All the MNF games this season have been good; let's hope that trend continues.

2). Giants vs. Braves. Well, we all know the Brooks Conrad debacle so there is no good beating a dead horse. He might be forced into action because Troy Glaus, yes, TROY GLAUS is starting at third. If he moves to his left or right, he is going down in a heap. I had my money on Air Bud starting at second but Glaus will have to do for now. Bumgarner vs. Lowe (short rest). My first instinct is to take the Braves in such a big game but I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants closed out the series tonight.

P.S. I found Cheech Marin aka Rupesh Shingadia from South London. That, my fellow Sausages, is a moustache.

New "He Blows POW" and Jim Calhoun

Check out the "He Blows!" player of the week to your right. After reading up on Brooks Conrad I feel bad for him. But sucking that much in such an important game clinched the award. Not giving it to him would have been a disservice to all who blow.

In other news Uconn is under investigation for recruiting violations?? No not Uconn and their esteemed history of compliance and recruitment of quality young men?!? Below is a video of Calhoun at his best, a great post game rant D Lob as well! It seems that J Woww from the Jersey Shore imitates Jim Calhoun when she rants "If ya know something tell me, If ya know something tell me"

TSR's Favorite Athlete

Check out this interview with Brian Wilson of the Giants, not of the beach boys. He might be TSR's favorite athlete, the interview below is a keeper but he has done better. When a reporter asked him if he was on a diet he said sure "I'm on a diet, stuff I like to eat, like pizza, burgers and shrimp, you know." Yeah Brian, I'm on that diet as well.

So red bull up and watch the video!

TSR's Weekly College Football Picks

Whatsup sausages?

After an 8-2 week, I'm back again this week. Not a very good weekend, especially compared to last weekends games but here they are. (Note: Due to an inability to look at them objectively, I will refrain from picking BC games. I now realize their offense is historically bad and they may not score more than 21 points in a game the rest of the year)

Illinois at Penn State
The Illini gave Ohio State a scare last weekend and Penn State has been rather underwhelming to this point. This game will be close, but it's in Happy Valley. Pick: Penn State

#11 Arkansas at Texas A&M
The Razorbacks have only one blemish, a home loss to Bama where they just fell apart in the fourth quarter. The Aggies are 3-1, but have lost to the only decent team they played, OK State. Last Thursday, the Aggies came storming back only to lose on a last second FG. Its also worth noting that Texas A&M is coached by Boston Latin School dropout Mike Sherman. Pick: Arkansas. A&M will be decent this year, but Arkanas is really good.

#17 Michigan State at #18 Michigan
First, TSR would like to wish Spartan coach Mark Dantonio a speedy recovery from both a heart attack and a blood clot all within 3 weeks. By now, everyone knows Shoelaces and the Wolverines can put up points. But can they stop anyone? They let up 37 points to UMASS and almost lost to them at home. MSU is coming off a big win over Wisconsin, but they may have trouble in the Big House. Pick: Close game, I'll take the Spartans. This will be Michigans toughest test yet, and their defense worries me too much.

Clemson at North Carolina
Let's hear it for Butch Davis and the Tar Heels! Not only did they beat ECU for their 2nd straight W, but they had nobody suspended this week for the first time all year! Clemson comes in off 2 straight close losses to Auburn and Miami. Pick: Clemson. Clemson still has a shot to win the Atlantic and contend for an ACC title. They win this game and its back to business as usual for Butch Davis and the Heels.

Oregon State at #9 Arizona
Oregon State comes in at 2-2 with losses to Boise and TCU. Arizona sits at 4-0 but won their last two games by 8 points combined over Iowa and Cal. Pick: I'll take the upset and go with Oregon State over Arizona in Tucson. I think both teams can play, but Arizona has been underwhelming lately. If not for some special teams TDs they would not have beaten Iowa. Oregon State wins making the Pac-10 race even more fun to watch.

#8 Auburn at Kentucky
I'll start by saying that I'm fully aboard the Cam Newton for Heisman bandwagon. Hop on while you still can! I have Auburn as a title contender and would not be surprised if the pulled the upset over Bama in the Iron Bowl. But thats still over a month away. They get the 3-2 Kentucky Wildcats on the road this week. Pick: Auburn. The Cam Newton train keeps on rolling after making a stop in Lexington.

#12 LSU at #14 Florida
I don't know. I think they're both overrated and behind Bama, Auburn, Arkansas, and SC in the SEC. That being said, LSU is somehow 5-0 despite not having a QB. Florida got rocked by Bama last week. Neither team has looked like a normal LSU or Florida team yet. Pick: LSU. Les Miles will continue his quest to be the only undefeated coach fired halfway through the season.

#23 Florida State at #13 The U
Both these teams are better than they get credit for. FSU has beaten everyone by 20+ points since being undressed by the Sooners in week 2. The U suffered a week 2 loss to Ohio State but has looked solid since then, and they pulled out a hard fought road win at Clemson last weekend despite Jacory Harris' efforts to lose the game. Pick: In a probable preview of the ACC Championship Game, I'm taking the U.

USC at #16 Stanford
Ouch. This matchup looked a lot better at halftime of the night games last weekend. Then both fell apart with USC losing to Washington at home and Stanford squandering a 21-3 lead to Oregon. USC has been unimpressive all year, and Stanford seems to have had just one really really bad half. Pick: Stanford in a rout.

Game of the Week:
#1 Alabama at #19 South Carolina
We know what Bama can do. They've been incredible for about a year and a half now, but the last two weeks have been icing on the cake. Coming back on the road at Arkansas and then beating down the Gators last week. SC has had a promising season despite a loss to Auburn two weeks ago. They've had they bye week to preapare and should come out firing at home Saturday afternoon. Pick: In what could be an SEC Championship Game preview, I gotta go with Bama until they give me a reason not to.

There you go, TSR's picks for this weekend. As always, feel free to comment.

Thoughts so far on MLB postseason

After the first 2 days, heres what I'm thinking
-NO REPLAY IN BASEBALL! Two of the biggest missed calls yesterday were on balls/strikes (Michael Young's checkswing, Pavano's pitch to Berkman.) If it ever gets to the point of replay for balls/strikes, I will probably stop watching baseball all together.

-The Rays are not done. I'll go on record today and say the Rays will win both games in Texas and send it back to the Trop. Garza starts game 3, and he showed in the 2008 ALCS that hes got brass ones and can handle big games. That sets up another Price-Lee matchup in game 4, in which you gotta think Price will bounce back. The Rays are down, but they are not out.

-The Twins are down and out. I like Brian Duensing, just not starting a road playoff game in Yankee Stadium. And even if they win that, they have to beat CC there, where he's like 167-2. Stick a fork in 'em, they're done.

-Listen, I'm rooting for the Reds, but theres no way they win this series. H20 is pitching out of their minds right now. You saw what Halladay did. Hamels has been lights out since September. Roy Freaking Oswalt is their 3rd best starter right now! I would say Dusty screwed the pooch by starting Volquez game 1, but they weren't beating Halladay anyway. Arroyo has a rough playoff track record, granted its from about 6 years ago. Cueto gives the Reds a sliver of hope, but he's throwing against Hamels. And even then, they get to see Halladay in game 4 and Oswalt in game 5.

-Too early to call Braves-Giants. I'll stick with my Braves in 5 call with Hudson-Cain and Hanson-Sanchez coming up. Both should be good matchups.

Also, I'll have my college football picks posted later in the day.

Get the Mojo Going

The Reds were embarrassed in game one by Doc Halladay, TSR needs to do something to reverse the Mojo! Below is a funny video of NBA mascots, it will surely turn the tide,,,

Oh and last night was the perfect example of why the Yankees only win because of $$$$, no other team could take on Berkman and Wood's salaries in the middle of the season, and pay Tex too much, and pay A Rod too much,,, I could go on

Replay vs. No Replay

Evening Sausages,

I don't want to beat a dead horse but I just can't help writing what seems to be on every one's minds as the MLB postseason is in full swing. Will a blown call affect the outcome of a game or worse, a series? The playoffs are a day old and already there is drama.

Exhibit 1: Last night during the Yankees/Twins Game 1 Greg Golson the Yankees RF appeared the catch a sinking liner by Delmon Young. The ump ruled otherwise which brought Jim Thome to plate as the potential tying run. We've all seen this old dude who is at least 50 hit many a clutch playoff homerun and when the incorrect ruling was made on the field I felt the same thing was going to occur. Luckily for the Yankees, the call did not come back to bite them.

Exhibit 2: Michael Young's check swing (see above). If called correctly, it would have been out #2. Instead, Young hits a 3-run homer later in the at-bat. The tide of the game changed with one blown call and one swing. That put Texas up 5 and they coasted to a 6-0 win (their second in 2 days) vs. Tampa. It serves to be noted that an entire series can change on one umpires call.

So I pose the question to you Sausages...should instant replay be expanded before a series becomes determined by one or a series of controversial calls? Backers of instant replay seek enhanced accuracy and the minimization of human error. Opponents cite an unproven process and the fact that games would take a lot longer. But we all can agree that some form of action must be taken because human error in high profile games is becoming excruciatingly glaring.

I know human error is part of the game and we aren't perfect but let's not have the wrong call be the deciding call in a game or series.

Best Player in Baseball?

Sauce-Sages,

So unless you live in isolation (Wyoming? The Ukraine?) you heard about Roy Halladay tossing a no no last night against the Redlegs. It was an impressive performance to say the least. Halladay's gem brings up an interesting argument, can a pitcher be the best player in baseball? I have listed a couple pro and con points below. Post your opinion in the comments for this article and add to the conversation,

Pro- Pitchers can single handedly control a game. They set the tone for the game, an impressive pitching performance can inspire good hitting and effective defense. Good pitching generally beats good hitting. Halladay beat the Reds by himself last night driving in a run and not giving up any hits. The Phillies had a very mediocre hitting performance last night and still won in a convincing fashion. Halladay not only affected the outcome of last nights game, but he set the tone for the series.

Con- Starters only play once every 5 games, relievers pitch at most every other game and only for an inning at a time. Pitchers are throwing fewer and fewer innings as Old Hoss Radbourn (678 IP in 1884) laughs in his grave. It seems that at most a pitcher could win 25 games in the current era of baseball. Pitchers also need defensive support and runs scored to be successful. Position players are paid more.

So what do you think, is a guy like Halladay more valuable than Albert Pujols?

Ahh! Local Sports Personalities in Commercials!

Bad locally made advertisements provide a steady stream of viral videos to the American public. The only thing better is when these videos contain sports 'personalities.' Below is a link to the Cincinnati Enquirer's list of the 5 worst local commercials featuring Reds players.

Bronson, Pete, Jr, say it aint so!

The best parts are the Kool Aid guy busting through the scoreboard and then making the catch with the worst looking over sized brown plastic glove of all time

In Bill We Trust?

Let me start by saying that as a Pats fan, I know I haven't had much to complain about the past 10 years and to the Bills and Lions fans out there, I'll prbably sound like an ungrateful whiny b*tch. But this move sure is a head scratcher.

Its no secret that Moss was upset with his contract and wanted a new deal. After a thrashing of the Bungles in week 1, he publicly voiced his displeasure but he also claimed he wanted to finish his career as a Patriot. Rumor has it that he asked for a trade the following day. At this point, put yourself in Belichick's shoes. His best deep threat is unhappy and has a history of quitting on teams if he doesn't get his way. Bill has three options: try to work an extension with Moss; tell him to play out the season and that they will address the issue in February, risking Moss qutting on the team; trade him and get something for him. As a fan, I wouldve preferred one of the first 2. I dont think Brady would have let Moss mail it in. Even if Moss ended up quitting, the Pats could've handled it like they handled Adalius Thomas last year.

For the past 10 or so years Pats fans have more or less blindly followed Bill's personnell decisions. When Lawyer Milloy was cut, there was some backlash but Belichick knew that Rodney Harrison could ball and made the tough choice cutting the fan favorite (and half of The Lawfirm with Ty Law.) Belichick brought guys in who were either washed up (Junior Seau) or given up on by other organizations (Mike Vrabel with the Steelers anyone?) and made them into legitimate starters on one of the best defenses in the NFL. At that point he was immune to any criticism.

However, recently his moves have not panned out. They drafted Laurence Maroney in the 1st round in 2006. Maroney had a promising rookie year in a timeshare with Corey Dillon. However fumbles, injuries, and overall just running like a pussy forced the Pats to trade him to Denver 2 weeks ago. Adalius Thomas was a disaster as were Duane Starks and Joey Galloway. The tipping point may have come last year when they traded Richard Seymour to the Raiders. They got a 1st rounder for this years draft (Mark Ingram? AJ Green?) but the defense was never the same after his departure.

Bill must believe one of the following to justify the Moss move: 1)Brandon Tate can replace Moss as a legitimate deep threat to open up space for Welker, Edelman, etc. 2)The offense will be more effective running TE sets with Hernandez, Crumpler, and Gronk. The money saved on Moss will then be used to sign holdout guard Logan Mankins. 3) The Pats have enough draft picks to trade for Chargers holdout Vincent Jackson.

Whatever it is, it better be worth potentially seeing Moss light up rookie CB Devin McCourty on Halloween when the Vikes visit Gillette.

Full Moon over Minneapolis?

This would be the most highly anticipated homecoming since Rick Reilly's show (which blows). Randy Moss (not the NASCAR guy), looks set to be return to the town where he made a name for himself scoring touchdowns and hitting traffic cops. All sources say that today is the "target" for this trade to go down. What this means for the rest of the NFL is that Father Time under center has an extremely viable target in Moss to complement Harvin, Shiancoe and Sidney Rice when he returns. Being an NFC North fan, in particular, a Lions fan I can only see this trade further solidifying our winless divisional record and league-worst defense.

Oh well, if Randy Moss fake-moons a crowd again, I hope its Detroit because that means people were actually at the game.

Stay classy Sausages,

New Video

Recently, the Ohio Bobcat has had a monopoly on the mascot fighting media. However, everyone's friend the Oregon Duck laid a huge beatdown on Houston's mascot a few years back. Little known (made up) fact is that the man in the costume was a young LaMichael James.

My favorite moment from the video is the duck's post fight celebratory high five with the fan

Celebrity Spotted Coaching

Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) was recently spotted coaching on the sidelines for Michigan State. Even though I'm Big Blue through and through, this made me laugh.

1+1=2. Except in the SEC

Here is a short video from Rivals on the debacle that occurred yesterday afternoon between LSU and Tennessee. Les Miles has used 8 of his lives and he by far is the only 5-0 coach I can think of who is on the hot-seat...ever. This flying by the seat of your pants style of play may work in the MAC or WAC but not in the SEC where we all know, "letting the boys play" is common. And more importantly, football is religion down South.

Tennessee have fought hard for a team with not too much talent who are clearly in a rebuilding stage (and can't add). LSU can't run/pass/trip over themselves for yards. The last minute of the game was chaos. Players running on and off the field all while the time is ticking down. For LSU fans I wish I could tell you this is uncommon. But seen with the Ole Miss game last year, Les Miles just doesn't learn. He'll need to soon or he will Geauxing to update his resume soon.

Check out the new video below! It's the Reds clinching the NL Central with a Jay Bruce walk off bomb. Its captures the moment and the atmosphere of the stadium much better than your average cell phone video.

Premier League Preview

Sausages!

You should know who the author of this post is. All 20 teams are in action this weekend which is the last weekend before International Break. Let's get it going.

Saturday:

Wigan Athletic v. Wolves
Here is a matchup of two squads with identical records. Wigan stand in 18th place within the relegation zone while Wolves linger dangerously above the drop zone with only goal differential saving them at the moment. To be absolutely honest with you, this match should be interesting because Wigan has only scored 2 goals this season thus far...yes, 2. While on paper it doesn't appear to be much, we could see some fireworks at the JJB. Pick: Wolves

Birmingham v. Everton
This is a truly baffling scenario as we are still relatively fresh into the 2010-11 campaign. Birmingham currently reside near the middle of the table in 13th and have played some inspired football drawing Man City earlier in the year. Everton have been downright dreadful coming in last in the EPL with only 3 points. A team that has the talent and ability to play in European competitions have simply underachieved this season. I fully expect this to continue: Pick: Birmingham

Stoke City v. Blackburn
Both of these teams play extremely physical brands of football which to be frankly honest isn't very appealing to the eye. Only a point separate these two squads in the table but don't expect 3 points out of this one. Stoke bring great fans to each match but that won't matter because there will be no victor. Pick: Draw

Sunderland v. Man Utd
Sunderland like Stoke and Blackburn play a physical breed of football. There are always a tough match for the visitor but the visitor in this case happens to be Man U. They are simply playing brilliantly at the moment and should have no trouble dispatching the Black Cats. Pick: Man U

Tottenham v. Aston Villa
Scoring, scoring, and more scoring. Both teams feature high-octane offenses and we should see plenty of goals galore because their defenses both blow. Both teams will look to push the initiative but I can only see their being one outcome in a matchup like this...Pick: Draw

West Bromwich Albion v. Bolton
West Brom are still riding high after a shock victory to my Gunners last weekend. That same attitude has propelled the newly promoted squad to 6th in the table and they return home to face a struggling Bolton outfit. The fans will truly show their appreciation for WBA and see the home squad to an easy victory. Pick: WBA

West Ham v. Fulham
A London Derby, just the way I like it. West Ham have sucked for the past 5 seasons. The only good thing about them at the moment is Green Street Hooligans. They blow. Expect nothing less that Fulham victory (7th place) in this case. Pick: Fulham

Sunday:

Man City v. Newcastle
4th place City host long-tim EPL natives but newly promoted in terms of this season Newcastle. The Magpies have a tough draw going to Man City to face the team that handed Chelsea their first defeat of the season. With an in-form Carlos Tevez, Man City should have no problems. Pick: Man City

Liverpool v. Blackpool
A matchup of the two 'pools. Only one point separates these teams in the table and both are playing truly miserable football to reflect that. Loserpool, excuse me, Liverpool have looked awful this season. Rafa Benitez might be out the door as manager, Torres can't stay healthy and there is talk of a partially distracted captain in Steven Gerrard. Expect goals to be at a premium. Pick: Draw

Match of the Week:
Chelsea v. Arsenal
Here we are, folks. My Gunners are playing hated rivals Chelski (Chelsea) at Stamford Bridge. Both teams are coming off defeats from the past weekend (Arsenal at home to WBA and Chelsea away to Man City). For Arsenal, it will be a battle of attrition in terms of their injury situation. Captain Cesc Fabregas and keeper Manuel Almunia appear to miss this clash joining the growing list of regulars already out of action. Powerful Chelsea hope to get back to their winning ways in this closely-knit affair both in proximity and in relation to the table with Chelsea being the leaders and Arsenal in 3rd. Tempers will flair and true quality will be shown but I see football being the only winner here.
Pick: Draw (2-2)

Simmonsed!

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmonsnfl2010/101001

TSR would like to fully endorse this week's Bill Simmons column. It essentially says that Mike Vick did the time for his crime and has been rehabilitated, even if he is probably faking the 'animal advocate' act.

We share this opinion and have honored Mr. Vick over the last two years by naming our IM basketball team the "Bad Newz Kennelz," Go Kennelz!

TSR's College Football Picks

Whatsup sausages,

Big weekend in college football this weekend, lets get to it.

#16 Miami at Clemson
Clemson has played pretty well so far, with their only loss coming at Auburn in OT. In fact if their kicker didn't blow they could easily be undefeated and the ACC might not be such a laughing stock, but they're Clemson and they did what they do best: find a way to lose a winnable game. Despite the beating they took in Columbus, I still think the U is a good team. They're in the final game of a 3 week road stretch and coming off a beatdown of the very disappointing Pitt Panthers. Pick: The U opens up ACC play with a W.

Florida St at UVA
Interesting game here since we really dont know too much about the Cavaliers. They've beaten 2 FCS teams and lost a close road game to USC. New coach Mike London will get his first ACC matchup against fellow rookie Jimbo Fisher. Fisher won his ACC debut last week shutting out Wake 31-0. Since being embarassed by the Sooners, the Noles have beaten BYU and Wake by a combined score of 65-10. Pick: FSU wins a game that will be closer than people think.

#21 Texas vs. #8 Oklahoma
Texas was very overrated to start the year and was exposed last weekend by an average UCLA squad. My preseason champion, OU, has been inconsistent with close wins against Utah State, Air Force, and Cincinnati. However, they took the Noles to the woodshed a couple weeks back. Pick: I expect the Sooners to bring the noise this weekend in Dallas and they will win going away.

#11 Wisconsin at #24 Michigan State
Should be one of the better games of the weekend and will help shape the Big Ten race. Wisconsin has not really played anyone yet, unless you wanna count an ASU squad with 0 wins over FBS competition. FYI, the Badgers only beat them by a point at home. MSU will have head coach Mark Dantonio back coaching from the box this weekend. Dantonio suffered a heart attack after beating ND on an awesome fake fg. I really dont know what to do with this game, it should be a good one. Pick: Wisconsin because that's what Pat McGeary would do.

Tennessee at #12 LSU
LSU will win, their fans will still boo and want Les Miles fired only 3 years removed from a title.

Virginia Tech at #23 NC State
Being a lifelong BC fan, I am more familiar with Tom O'Brien than I would care to be. TOB's teams routinely lose games in which they are favored. After leaving BC, TOB declared you could do no better than 8/9 wins there. His successor promptly went 11-3 in his first year at BC. TOB will let this team down. Oh, and anyone calling Russell Wilson for Heisman, its gonna be a long afternoon. Pick: Hokies. Despite somehow losing to JMU, they could very well run the conference slate and win the ACC. Its ethier them or the U at this point.

Notre Dame at BC
I can not objectively pick this game so I will not try. True frosh Chase Rettig will get the start for BC after Coach Spaz mercifully brought an end to the Dave Shinskie era (although I would argue it was 3 games too late, but thats just me.) I hate evrything about Notre Dame. They will lose this weekend. They will then go on to beat Western Michigan, Tulsa, and various service academies. At this point, they will probably be ranked and we will hear about their 'return to glory.' Then USC will murder them, and we can do it all again next year. Pick: You already know who I'm going with.

#22 Penn State at #17 Iowa
I like both teams, but I just don't think Penn State has it this year. Plus, even in years when they do have it, they still can't beat Iowa. I was big on the Hawkeyes heading into the year and I still think they can play. If their special teams showed up against Arizona, we might be talking potential title contenders. Pick: Iowa

#7 Florida at #1 Alabama
I'll start by saying Bama's performance last week is the most impressive thus far in the year. Arkansas had them dead to rights at home and couldn't put them away. That is what champions are made of. Florida has been underwhelming so far by Florida standards. With the game in Tuscaloosa I don't see the Tide losing here. Pick: Bama. After last week, I will pick them until further notice.

NCAA vs North Carolina and Butch Davis
First let me say that I'm positively shocked that a Butch Davis team is in trouble. Nobody could've seen that coming. Pick: NCAA. And don't forget to give us your pick for which Tar Heel(s) will be suspended this week!

Game of the Week: #9 Stanford at #4 Oregon
I'm not sure if people realize how good the Pac-10 is this year. These two are legit title contenders. Oregon had rolled through the schedule up until last week, but a double digit conference win is nothing to scoff at. The Fightin Harbaughs looked good last week by taking it to the Irish from the get go. For the Cardinal, watch Andrew Luck (future Bills great). Heading into the year I was skeptical of the hype, but he quickly made me a believer. For Oregon, the whole offense is explosive, but Lamichael James in particular is electrifying. This should be a good one to watch, too bad I'll be drunk off my ass in Chestnuthill cheering on the Eagles. Pick: More or less a tossup. I'll take Oregon at the Autzen Zoo.

There you have it, TSR's first ever college football picks. Feel free to comment.
